Ascendant Marble Run

ASCENDANT 36" x 48" Mixed media on cradled wood panel. 

1000's of individually hand cut, shaped, sanded, and painted pieces of wood form this Ascendant themed marble run. 

The Biocores are nested in the canopy at the top and descend down the gnarled tree, around the twisted pipes and vines, into the corridors of the outpost, and zig zag into the neon vapor wave mesh until the last Biocore comes to it's rest in the cradle below.

Lately I like to call this style of marble run a "Fire Escape". Quick, one path down, no moving parts except the marble, no power needed, nothing to break. This also allows you to fully experience the unique sounds it makes while also being able to touch the painting (Which is usually off limits).

I consider them more of a piece of art rather than a toy and try to make sure they can stand on their own and the marbles falling are just icing on the cake. That's also why I like to frame them and hang them on the wall like a painting.
